Somerset County Sheriff Frank Provenzano has announced that the Sheriff's Office will be in attendance at the Branchburg Country Fair at White Oak Park on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"The Branchburg Country Fair is a family-oriented community event that usually attracts over 5,000 people," said Sheriff Provenzano. "It's a fun-filled event that includes meeting your community's first responders. Come out and meet us and enjoy the entertainment, food, crafters, community groups and much more. It's events like this that make our communities stronger."
The Sheriff's Office will have a table with brochures and will offer the following demonstrations and information throughout the event:
K-9 Demonstrations - A Sheriff's K-9 Officer will be joined by his K-9 partner for a demonstration at the fair. The K-9 Unit is available to visit schools and community groups to demonstrate the unique abilities of its specially trained dogs. For information contact Capt. Tim Pino at908-231-7028.
Child Car Seat Safety Checks - Nationwide statistics on child safety seats are startling. Up to 72 percent of the child safety seats in cars on the road have serious defects or are improperly installed. Specially trained Somerset County Sheriff's Officers are available to attend community forums and events to perform child car seat safety checks. Project Medicine Drop - This multi-location drop-off program provides the opportunity to discard unused prescription medications every day throughout the year. Residents can take advantage of the Sheriff's Office medicine collection drop box 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, no questions asked. The mailbox-style receptacle is located on the lower level of the Somerset County Administration Building at 20 Grove St., Somerville, NJ 08876, near the entrance to the Sheriff's Office. "The focus of this ongoing program is to protect the environment and get rid of unwanted, unused and outdated medicine, especially potentially dangerous pharmaceuticals," Sheriff Provenzano said. The Somerset County Sheriff's Office maintains custody of the deposited drugs and properly disposes of them.
